Selva caribeña

Dschungel, karibische Version, auf Corn Islands (Nicaragua 1981), spanisch: Islas del Maiz. Eine Mischung aus Palmen, Mangroven und allerlei Gewächsen, die ich nicht kenne – man kommt da keinen Schritt weit, und wenn man erst drin steckt, verliert man sofort die Orientierung, wenn man keinen Kompass dabei hat.

Nicaragua’s eastern tropical lowlands, adjacent to and including the Caribbean, are very different from the rest of the country geographically, ecologically and culturally. The area is in reality, a world unto itself. Much of the area is uninhabited and covered with dense tropical rain forest. The most populous area is on the coast. The two largest towns are Blufields and Puerto Cabezas.

Es ist unfassbar, wie sich die Verhältnisse auf den zwei Inselchen geändert haben. Damals gab es nur eine Bruchbude, die sich Hotel Playa nannte, und keinerlei Touristen.
